Brewing news Russia: The brewing sector’s growth was forecasted to stay within the 4-6% tolerable limits

The Russian Brewers Union has prepared an economic outlook of “The beer market according to the third quarter of 2006 results”. The outlook contains an inventory of main events and trends occurring in the beer market and also estimates future development perspectives, the Union released October 25.

Assuming the 3Q 2006 optimistic figures, the Russian Brewers Union said that the brewing sector is expected to grow in 2006 by 6.7%. The incipient and less optimistic 4-6% sector growth forecast was inspired from low figures reported in the brewing sector in January-February 2006.

In the same time, the results of the 3Q 2006 can not be read as unexpected. The growth excess is actually within the admissible limits of the market fluctuations. Moreover, the majority of experts converge in opinion that the forecast about the moderate rates of growth on the basis of the market’s annual results should be kept changed.

Among the reasons of such dynamic progress in the brewing sector, one can refer as well to objective and subjective factors. The shift of the consumption’s profile towards beer and wine can be considered as an objective reason. Meanwhile, the rather hot weather had subjectively led domestic brewers to increase their beer output.

The 3Q 2006 figures work against the rumors that the growth rhythm in the brewing sector was mainly du to the problems which emerged in the wine sector. As figures have shown, the segment of the strong beer has dropped 1%. Experts say that “even if Russians drink less vodka and more beer, the consumers didn’t necessarily turned to strong beer products. All beer segments have proven a similar increase in the reference period.”
